Imagine 134 miles of breathtaking water and foliage views!  Your journey can begin in Alton Bay NH and trace the Lake Winnipesaukee on route to Wolfeboro, where the drive turns north toward Moultonborough, Meredith and continues through picturesque small towns. Visit quaint shops and taverns along the way and be sure to visit Castle in the Clouds in Moultonborough for aerial views of Lake Winnipesaukee and her Ossipee Mountain Range overlooks. Truly magnificent autumn splendor will surround you everywhere you look.

From Alton Bay, take NH 11 West; then bear right on 11B North to the traffic circle and exit onto US 3 North to Weirs Beach. Continue on US 3 North to Meredith and Holderness; then pick up NH 113 North to Center Sandwich. From there, take NH 109 South to Moultonborough. When you reach the Old Country Store, bear left on NH 25 East to pick up NH 109 South again. Continue NH 109 South to Wolfeboro; then pick up NH 28 South back to Alton.

The store is among the oldest in the country and also one of the oldest surviving businesses of any kind. It has been the scene of town meetings in the early 1800’s, and again in the 1900’s; the library; post office for over 100 years; and a stage stop.

"Gunstock Resort Fall Foliage Wetlands Walk" - Gilford NH

In partnership with the Belknap County Conservation District, Gunstock is home to the 1/4 mile, handicapped accessible boardwalk, complete with benches for resting.  The walk is self-guided with informational points along the way. Parking is available off the entrance road, on the right just past the end of the bridge’s guardrail.  Handicap access is through the campground.  Please stop in at the Camping Center for handicap access and directions.
E-Bike Tours & Segway Tours are running daily out of the Camp Store, and the campground is open. The Welcome Center is closed to the public until the start of ski season: Decmember 4, 2020. Find US –

Day Trip Diversions – Hiking

Drive West to Rattlesnake Mountain Holderness NH. Trails move through oak & maple trees to rocky outcrops overlooking forested islands and magestic views of Squam Lake. The trailhead for Old Bridle Path is located in Holderness New Hampshire along Route 113. From I-93, take Exit 24 and follow Rt. 3 East about 4.5 miles – Take rt 113 , 5 miles – At the top of the hill look for large parking on the right. (just after Pinehurst Rd)

Drive to Alton hiking Mount Major Alton Bay NH.  From Alton Bay follow Rt 11 towards Laconia NH , about 2 miles  –  Large parking lot on Left and street parking is permitted when full.  Breathtaking smooth stone summit with views of Lake Winnipesaukee. Trail is moderate with several steep areas.
