Kimberly Dow Description: Kimberly attended Plymouth State University in N.H., originally intending to teach art. While attending college, she was married and worked part-time at a local art gallery. When they offered to hang a few of her floral paintings using liquid acrylic on watercolor paper she was pleased. When they all sold within weeks she started her professional career immediately at the age of twenty.
Having painted professionally now for over 16 years, Kim considers herself primarily a realist. Her subjects vary from portraits, murals, landscapes, still lifes and more recently: narrative figuratives. When it comes to her portraits, Kim is always striving to perfect not only the physical likeness she paints, but the style and techniques she uses to enhance the model's personality. These are some of her favorite paintings and commissions, the intricacies of painting the human face and form are endlessly fascinating.

Waxing Moon Batik Studio Description: The word "batik" is Indonesian and means "wax writing". Briefly, the process involves brushing on melted paraffin and beeswax so it penetrates specific portions of the fabric. The waxed fabric is then dipped into or painted with wet dyes. The waxed areas repel or "resist" the dyes; thus the term "resist" process. Each time a new dye color is introduced on the fabric, portions of that color are waxed and held until the desired color scheme is achieved. Added on: 22-Feb-2005 Hits: 1350 Rate this Site
